Arriving at the Stone Centre

To help prepare for the visit and give your group an idea of what to expect on the day, we have prepared this short guide.

First Steps

Coach, and car parking for parents to drop off their children FREE

Access for educational groups will be from the National Stone Centre car and coach park.

walk under the bridge and take your group on the path to the right as you emerge from the short tunnel.

Our team will be there to greet you in front of the Geo Steps at 10 am.

Currently, school groups need to use the toilets in the cafe area. As you arrive, our team of Educators will organise this for you, but it is the school staff’s responsibility to ensure the children are supervised in the cafe and toilet areas. Arrangements can be made for children with access needs; please inform the Education Team during the booking process of these needs.

Lunch

Our team will show you where lunches are to be left.

Your group will be allocated a lunchtime space of 30 to 45 minutes for the children to have their packed lunches.

Cleaning resources and extra bin bags will be available in each space for you to carry out an additional clean should you wish to.

We’re very excited to welcome our visitors to enjoy our open-air site. During your visit, please ask our staff and volunteers if you have any queries, they’ll be very happy to help.

Behaviour

We look forward to welcoming your group to the National Stone Centre, we ask you to read through and share the following information with all those who will be accompanying your students on their visit.

  • We are very lucky to have many Volunteers sharing their extensive knowledge with visitors and students, please be respectful and courteous towards them.
  • Educators and volunteers are not here to supervise the students, so please stay with your group when they attend a workshop, are on activities, or are in the Centre.
  • It is the teachers and supervisors’ responsibility to manage the behaviour of their students.
  • Students are not free to wander around the site alone; they must be always supervised. This includes when using the toilets within the cafe area; a member of your school/ group team must always accompany them.
  • Please respect the National Stone Centre and leave the buildings as you find them. This includes ensuring all rubbish is put into the bins provided.
  • For the safety and wellbeing of your students, we ask you not to climb any of the rocks and/ or trees whilst on site.
  • When visiting the shop please could you make sure you supervise the pupils in small groups of no more than six.

Additional Information

Please be considerate to others enjoying their day at the Centre.

  • Care for nature, please do not cause damage or disturbance
  • We can’t wait to see you, but if anyone in your group is feeling unwell, we kindly ask that they stay at home.
  • Please follow signs and keep to the paths
