England's Heritage in Stone publicationEngland's Heritage in Stone
and the English Stone Forum

The English Stone Forum (ESF) was established in the wake of a conference in York in 2005.  Its aim is to champion English stone by encouraging a greater public interest and awareness of the stone built heritage of England and the threats it faces – and to encourage the wider use of stone for maintaining traditional buildings and new construction.  The NSC is a founder member of the ESF and the Welsh Stone Forum.

In late 2007, the National Stone Centre was invited to assist in editing the proceedings and to carry out all the design work.  The resulting publication, England's Heritage in Stone, was launched at the Natural Stone Show, London in March 2008 and has been very well received.

Publications with this level of concentration on stone subjects do not come along very often and this is one to be warmly welcomed" Richard Deane, Cornerstone (journal of SPAB).

The paper by Ian Thomas (Director of the NSC) on Hopton Wood Stone in the same review was described as:

"the kind of specialised but accessible study of an individual stone that could usefully be extended to many other examples".
