INTRODUCTION
Authority
Significant points arise from this treatment. Most importantly, whereas
the document offers guidance in good faith as to good and current practice
and has been based on a detailed search of literature, the experience
of the writers and observations made by many leaders in their particular
fields, it should not be taken in any way as a legally authoritative
document. The original official or statutory guidance, insurance terms,
law and legal interpretation through case law, etc., will always take
precedence. In particular, legislation and interpretation is constantly
changing and secondly, this guidance is by its very nature, intended
as a summary and a steer, rather than a source to cover every contingency
and nuance.
